Is another man’s treasure…
I thought I ‘d share this one of a kind item with you. So I saw a company was throwing out this oak shipping crate. It is about three feet long by 2 feet wide. A small little gem that is very heavy and solid. I grabbed it up and wondered what to do with it. I knew it was going to become something but I just couldn’t figure it out.
I thought storage would be the best. I had no lid on it so I had to make one. I used a piece of scrap steel plate and started welding letters on it…C O A L. I added a wood accent piece along the top with a heavy duty rivet in the middle. I then proceeded to bang the inside of the lid with a hammer to emulate an internal explosion in the cabinet. I lettered it with the Matewan Coal Company graphics as if it were an old dynamite crate.
I treated the metal with my special blacksmithing technique and offered her up for sale. It sold quick to a retired Kentucky Coal Miner. I am glad he appreciates it so much. I wonder what he keeps in the cabinet.
The heavy duty casters on the bottom allow it move around quite nicely as a coffee table.
